Xarelto Blood Thinner Lawsuits
Manufactured by Bayer, Xarelto has been linked to uncontrollable bleeding.
This side effect is not uncommon with blood thinners. Recently, almost 200 lawsuits have been filed against the similar drug, Pradaxa.
In addition to the serious bleeding events and fatalities, blood clots have been reported in patients taking Xarelto—despite the fact that the drug was designed to prevent blood clots from occurring.
Allegations Against Bayer
While Xarelto is intended to reduce the risk of stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary Embolism, and Blood clots in patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices named blood thinners as the most dangerous drugs—meaning that they have the highest number of serious side effects.
Bayer has been accused of failing to adequately warn consumers about the potential risks associated with the drug.
Side effects of Xarelto include:
- Intracranial hemorrhages
- Epidural hematoma
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhages
- Retinal hemorrhages
- Adrenal bleeding
Some are suggesting that Bayer should have recalled the drug once risks were discovered because the side effects cannot yet be controlled or reversed by physicians.
