Winter Crusher Race
The personal injury law firm of Schultz & Myers is proud to be a sponsor in the Crusher Race – Winter Edition, which will take place on December 7th, 2014. The Crusher describes itself as the “COOLEST” obstacle race around.
Several obstacles were taken from their spring crusher course, and additional winter-themed challenges were added. The course includes more than 15 obstacles and fitness tests. When you make it through the 5k race, join other participants by the fire for some warm beverages.
You’ll feel even better knowing that the Wintery event isn’t just for fun: the Crusher Race benefits the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Your money will be used to support research and awareness about the two diseases.
About Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn’s disease affects as many as 700,000 men and women in the United States. Both genders are equally likely to be affected. While the disease may affect individuals of any age, Crohn’s disease is most prevalent among young adults and teens between 15-35.
The GI tract contains harmless bacteria that aids in digestion, but the immune system of people with IBD mistakes this harmless bacteria for harmful invaders. The immune system will attack this harmless bacteria, causing inflammation that does not subside, ulceration, and thickening of the intestinal wall.
Another 700,000 Americans suffer from Ulcerative Colitis. Unlike Crohn’s, most people are not likely to be diagnosed in their mid-30s. While Ulcerative Colitis tends to run in families, there is no clear cause.
In people with ulcerative colitis, the immune system attacks harmless bacteria–forcing the body to send white blood cells into the lining of the colon–producing chronic inflammation and ulcerations.
While similar diseases, it’s important to understand that these are two distinct conditions. The difference is that Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the GI tract, but ulcerative colitis affects only the colon.
About The Crusher Race
The Crusher Race 5k is an obstacle course race and mud run, so you are going to get dirty! In an effort to reduce lines at each of the obstacles, participants will leave in waves. The entry for an individual (14 yrs & older) is $59–so long as you sign up before December 1st. If you wait until the week of the event, it will cost $69, so be sure to sign up early!
Stop by the Schultz & Myers booth at the event! Our staff will be giving away lots of free stuff, including a chance to enter our sweepstakes! We hope to see you at the race!
